Yarrow or Achillea fillipendulina belongs to the family Asteraceae formerly called the family Compositae. The gold yarrow is a herbaceous perennial that is tall and regal, growing over three feet, with gray finely divided fern like leaves and flat clusters of small yellow flowers that attract butterflies. Gold yarrow in a fresh bouquet lasts for a week or longer and is effective in a dried flower arrangement. The botanical name Achillea refers to Achilles, the champion of Greek legend, who evidently used the herb to heal battlefield wounds. |
