 Crepe Myrtle

The crepe myrtle also known as crape myrtle is of the Lagerstroemia species and belongs to the Lythraceae family. This deciduous tree is a favorite in southern gardens blooming most of the summer and tolerating its heat.

In summer, the older cinnamon bark exfoliates leaving a smooth silken bark. As autumn approaches, the leaves turn colors and fall leaving an outline of seed capsules on the branch tips for the winter landscape.

The hybrid Natchez grows well in the Virginia Garden and will reach 35 feet.

The slightly fragrant clusters of white flowers display well against brick.
