Astilbes are best grown in partly shady gardens and are perfect companions for hostas and ferns. With delightful plumed flowers and fine foliage the Astilbe Erika (Arendsii Hybrid) blossoms in June and July and reaches a height of three feet. The Astilbe grows best in rich, moist, well-drained soil in a semi-shaded area. Hosta sieboldiana elegans and the Male Fern (Dryopteris filix-mas or Undulata Robusta) accompany the flowering Astilbe in the image. The Astilbe Erika and the Male Fern appear to be deer resistant. The Hosta Sieboldiana Elegans is a deer delight! |
